18 killed in FATA, Swat clashes

BARA/HANGU/MINGORA: Four security officials, three civilians and eleven militants were killed in separate clashes in Khyber Agency, Hangu and Swat on Friday.

A security official and five militants were killed in a clash in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency on Friday. Four security personnel were also injured in fighting between security forces and Lashkar-e-Islam militants in Bara’s Kohi Sher Haider area. Locals told Daily Times that security forces pounded militants’ hideouts with heavy artillery. Separately, three security officials were killed after the Taliban attacked a Frontier Corps (FC) fort in Hangu district on Friday. Three civilians, including two women and a child, also lost their lives in the attack in Taura Warai area of the district.

Meanwhile, six Taliban, including two senior commanders, were killed in clashes with security forces in Swat, official said.

A Swat Media Centre spokesman, Major Mushtaq, told Daily Times security forces had also arrested four terrorists and seized weapons from them. Security forces also killed a Taliban commander in Matta tehsil during a search operation. sajid ali/ghulam farooq
